What Makes you Happy

When was the last time someone asked you, “What makes you happy?”

Most of us are used to hearing “How are you?” It’s a polite question, but it rarely touches the heart. Asking someone what makes them happy invites a real answer — one that can wake up something inside them.

Many people live by rules that put duty and expectation before joy. We’re taught to be responsible, to fit in, to keep others comfortable. Over time, we forget the simple things that light us up: painting, singing, dancing, building, loving, wandering in nature. We tuck those things away, telling ourselves they aren’t important.

But happiness isn’t extra. It’s essential.

When you explore what makes you happy, you reconnect to who you really are. You stop living on autopilot and start creating a life that feels true. And yes — sometimes that means disappointing people. Sometimes it looks selfish from the outside. But in truth, choosing your happiness is one of the most generous things you can do. A person living in joy shines brighter. They listen better. They love deeper. They give others permission to do the same.

At The Church of Unreasonable Happiness, we believe that happiness is a spiritual practice. It’s unreasonable because it asks you to trust yourself more than the voices around you. It’s unreasonable because it reminds you that you deserve joy now, not someday when all the work is done.

Today, try asking someone, “What makes you happy?”And when they ask you, answer honestly.

Because knowing what makes you happy isn’t just about feeling good — it’s about living true.
